How are my children transported?
We transport all of our campers and counselors in 12 or 15 passenger vans.
What are your staff's qualifications?
All counselors have a minimum required certification in First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard. Our lead Counselors are certified Wilderness First Responders. They are supported by two other counselors. All staff members are screened for their skills in outdoor education and working with children. We also do background checks.
Does my child need to be physically fit?
Participants do not need to be athletically fit. We do suggest that all participants exercise before their camp session.
My child has never done these activities before; is this camp appropriate?
Our camp is designed to teach the basics of each activity. The majority of campers are trying a new activity for the first time when they come here although we cater to all skill levels.
Where is Martha's Vineyard?
Martha's Vineyard is located 7 miles off the coastline of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Can I contact my child at camp?
You may contact the Martha's Vineyard Adventure Camp office and we will reach the campers while they are in session. Every counselor has a cellular phone and walkie-talkie. Due to the location of our activities, sometimes it is not possibly to get a hold of camp while they are in session. If it is an emergency and we cannot contact them through cell phone or walkie-talkie we will send a staff member to the camps location to deliver the message.
What if my child gets sick or injured during camp?
Any minor injury or illness that occurs during the day will be documented and reported to the parents at the end when the campers are being picked up. In the event of a major injury or illness during camp, Martha's Vineyard Adventure Camp will contact the parent or guardian on the emergency contact form.
What happens in the event of inclement weather?
Our camps run rain or shine. If server weather is in the forecast we will change our itinerary and move to more sheltered areas.
What happens if I am late to the drop off or pick up?
If a camper is late for drop off, the counselors are instructed to wait 15 minutes extra. If you do not arrive within that timeframe, you can arrange to dropping off your child directly at the activity site by contacting our office. If you are over 15 minutes late from picking up your child, you will be contacted and instructed to pick him/her up at our office located in Vineyard Haven.
What should I do if my child will not be attending a day of camp?
Please contact our office at your earliest convenience, preferably the evening before the day your child will not be attending. We can then relay the message to the staff departing each morning.
Can I drop off my child at the Martha's Vineyard Adventure Camp office or other activity sites?
No. Due to the nature of our camp, our staff is either at the pick up location or at the specific activity site preparing for the days activity. We are unable to adequately attend to campers that are not at the specified pick up location.
What is the ratio of campers to counselors?
We maintain a maximum ratio of 6:1 camper to counselor ratio
Where are the activities located?
Our activities are located throughout Martha's Vineyard. Each day is a new activity with a different location. If you have specific questions about a location you can call our office and we would be happy to address all your questions.
Where is the drop-off and pick-up locations for camps?
Our drop-off and pick-up site is located at the Martha's Vineyard High School parking lot. You will see signs when you enter the high school.
Can parents join their child for a day of camp?
No. Having parents present during camp will affect the campers ability to socialize and focus on the experience.
Does my child need a physical examination before camp?
Yes. We require every child to an examination within the past year before attending there camp session.
Is there any special equipment I need to buy for the trip?
No. We provide all the necessary equipment. See the "What to Bring" list for things your child should come to camp with.
Can my child bring a cellular phone, video games, or music devices to camp?
No. We designed our camp to allow the campers to experience the natural environment without cellular phones or any other electronic gadget.
