CAMP COUNSELORS

 

 

 

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.

• Must be certified in First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguarding.

• Must submit health history record and examination form prior to the first day of work.

• Ability to interact with all age levels.

• Have your own housing.

 

Job Description

• Teach the fundamentals and safety skills needed of every activity to the campers

• Assist in planning and conducting activities that have been developed by the camp and staff, with the age-appropriate campers that you are responsible for.

• Supervising and maintaining the safety of campers.

• Managing children’s behavior

• Assist in keeping the site clean and safe

• Serving as a positive role model

• Responsible for the care, upkeep, and storage of all camp equipment.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Understanding of the development needs of youth.

• Ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive manner.

• Recreation and outdoor skills

• Knowledge and skill in program areas

• Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.

• Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.

• Ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

 

Physical Requirements

Some physical requirements of a counselor position could be endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, walking long distances, hiking, paddling, and biking; requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs; and with daily exposure to the sun, heat, rain or cold days.
